JO'S STORY
Hey! I'm Jo McMeechan, Founder and Director of The SENStory Group. I have worked in the disability sector as a children's physio for over 15 years and I'm a Mum to two diverse little humans who are Autistic and ADHD. My experience as a Parent Professional has taught me so much about both sides of the SEND world.
All of our services at the SENStory Group offer fun, play based, break the mould, therapy and learning for children with disabilities and additional needs. We strongly advocate for getting out of the clinical and education spaces and into nature, often with our team of therapy pony facilitators. Everything we do is child led, play based with fun at the centre (accompanied by a sprinkle of science of course!)
WHY CHANGE THE NARRATIVE?
In September 2021 my youngest son experienced a mental health crisis as a result of unmet and unrecognised need. We have trodden the path of barriers to access to education and a fight with our Local Authority to secure an EHCP and EOTAS package to support him. In February 2021 we stepped into the world of home education with our eldest in search of a different approach to nurturing our children and their learning.
This lead to the launch of our community organisation SENStory CIC, to support more families, just like ours, to have better access to support services with professionals who really understand what's needed.
